The Pi-Beta Chapter of Loyola Marymount University has been following the LMU mission statement.
The Encouragement of Learning: Kappa Sigma offers scholarships to students who are exceeding in their academics. We also offer our internal tutoring where brothers are matched together based on the courses that they need assistance with.
The Education of the Whole Person: Brothers experience fellowship and are exposed to various leadership positions. Kappa Sigmas are also required to be members of other campus organizations so that we can expand our horizons.
The Service of Faith: We require 25 hours of service each semester by our brothers. We assist Junior Blind of America with raising funds and their annual Junior Blind Olympics. We learn that there is more to this world than our individual lives.
The Promotion of Justice: The Pi-Beta chapter of Kappa Sigma was chosen as an Action Chapter within Kappa Sigma. Our president has also been selected to be a Kappa Sigma Fellow due to our chapter’s strict adherence to our national Code of Conduct.
We follow the LMU mission statement because we were first Lions and still as Kappa Sigs, we continue to be Lions.
Being a Brother of Kappa Sigma exposes you to numerous leadership positions, giving you invaluable experience for both your college life and your life after college. Within the fraternity, men have the opportunity to refine their leadership skills in any number of leadership positions. Kappa Sigmas are leaders and presidents of many clubs and other student groups on campus, and many Kappa Sigmas in our chapter have even been responsible for starting new organizations on campus. After college, many Kappa Sigmas have become leaders in the areas of business, politics, sports, entertainment, academics and sciences. But no matter what you end up doing, the leadership experience Kappa Sigma will give you during college will undoubtedly assist you at being one of the best in your field.
You are in college for one main reason, to get a good education. Kappa Sigma understands this and is meant to be an aid in your academic career. From our earliest spiritual founding in Italy during the Renaissance, Kappa Sigma has existed in order to help young men obtain quality educations. One example of this is the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund, the largest scholarship program in all the greek community. Each year, over $300,000 is awarded to undergraduate brothers who excel in scholarship and leadership. Kappa Sigma will create a network of support for you within the chapter so that you will always have somebody to turn to for help with any given subject.
Joining Kappa Sigma provides opportunities for personal growth that cannot be found elsewhere. You will bond with your brothers and learn from each other while growing as your own person. You will be exposed to men from all over the country and from different parts of the world. You will experience new cultures and new viewpoints that will help your personal development. Kappa Sigma is not about having a group of brothers for college; it is about having a group of brothers for life. You will have unique social experiences and a group of brothers to share it all with. In Kappa Sigma, fellowship means having brothers who will be there through your good times and the bad times. Someone will always be there when you need them, you can always count on a Kappa Sigma.
Kappa Sigma’s spirit is about helping others. This spirit of service extends to outside your chapter and into the community. Kappa Sigmas are involved with formal community service organizations and events on campus as well as in more informal community service activities, such as beach clean ups. Our chapter has been involved with Junior Blind of America in Los Angeles since we were a colony, volunteering annually at the Junior Blind Olympics. We are fortunate to be where we are and we wish to give back to the community to show our appreciation for all the support that we have received both individually and as a group. Knowing that you have made a difference in someone’s life is the most rewarding feeling one can experience.
Kappa Sigma has a lot to offer to a student. Kappa Sigma recognizes that you are here in college to get a good education, and the fraternity wants to help you achieve that goal.
You will have a network of undergraduate brothers and dedicated alumni who are really interested in seeing you succeed in school and in life after school. Kappa Sigma also recognizes that a college education does not exist solely in the classroom. Kappa Sigmas leave school as well-rounded young men, ready to face whatever challenges life has in store for them. The fraternity will help mold you to be stronger academically, morally, socially and spiritually. You will be able to learn from diverse individuals and have others learn from you. You will have a unique opportunity to be a part of something that has been around long before you were and will be around long after you will be.
Kappa Sigma also has a great alumni network. Alumni chapters exist all over America so that you may stay connected with the fraternity after college. Kappa Sigma has the largest volunteer network in all the greek community. More Kappa Sigma alumni are helping undergraduate chapters than any other fraternity because Kappa Sigma alumni want to help undergraduate brothers leave college with the same quality of experiences that they once left college with.
If you have any questions about Kappa Sigma in general or about rushing the Pi-Beta chapter of Kappa Sigma, feel free to email us or just ask one of the brothers you see around campus. We are more than willing to take the time out of our day because Kappa Sigma means that much to all of us.
